“The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is committed to ensuring a diverse, inclusive and supportive environment in which scientists can make the important breakthroughs that will improve the health and quality of life of people across the world.
During the 2016 presidential election, we heard harsh rhetoric that caused great concern among those in our diverse community. Since the election of Donald Trump as president-elect, we have seen violence and other hate-inspired acts that make members of our community fear for their safety and futures.

The ASBMB has always and will continue to foster inclusion, support the need for a highly skilled and diverse international scientific workforce, and promote policies that make the United States a beacon to the world’s best and brightest looking for opportunities.
Additionally, we at the ASBMB appreciate the importance of scientific progress and evidence-based decision making as we work to improve the health of our country and the world.

We will work with the incoming administration, as we have with past administrations, to safeguard the principles, policies and practices that have made America’s scientific enterprise the envy of the world.

Members of the ASBMB and broader scientific community are welcome to share their concerns by contacting publicaffairs@asbmb.org.
Members of the media should contact ASBMB Public Affairs Director Benjamin Corb at bcorb@asbmb.org.”
